What do I need to do before I can enroll in this course?

  • Before enrolling in this course you should have your Utah Learner’s Permit. One of the first assignments in the course is to submit this information. Everything is entered by this number into the Driver Licence Division database. You will also need a permit for 6 months before getting your license so starting the clock is a great thing. 

Is this course like the course offered at my high school?

  • The Weber Online theory course includes 30 hours of instruction and complies with the current Utah State Office of Education's regulations. It is similar to the courses offered at each of the Weber School District high schools.
  • Students who are self-motivated and who learn well independently through reading and video are the most successful in this course. If you have failed previous online courses, it is not suggested that you enroll in this course.

How long do I have to complete the course?

  • Students have 1 traditional school quarter in which to finish the course. The course is self-paced and may be accessed any day at any time. 

Who teaches this course?

  • Trevor Ward. Trevor is a CTE Coordinator and Driver Ed instructor at Weber High.

Do I have to attend an in-person class?

  • No. This course is self-paced. There are no class meeting times. 
  • Most students can finish in 2-4 weeks. (30 hours)  
  • The in-person portion will be after class is over with your local high school and range/road. 

Is there a test at the end of this course?

  • Yes, a proctored final. 
  • Very similar to a permit test. 

What do I need to do after this course to get my driver’s license?

  • Contact your local high school to complete the road/range portion of class. A certificate of completion will be sent upon passing the proctored final.  Instructions and contacts will be provided.  

How do I schedule the required 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction?

  • Contact your local high school to complete the road/range portion of class. A certificate of completion will be sent upon passing the proctored final.  Instructions and contacts will be provided.  
  • $35 was paid online for the theory portion of the course
  • $100 will need to be paid to the school along with the proper paperwork to register for the road, range, and observation requirements. 

How do I complete the required 6 hours of observation?
